  • What's your favorite experience?
My favorite experience with HeroBox has been communicating with my sponsored service members via the chat function on the application. This has helped me get to know them better and understand what their needs are during their deployment. Through chatting with those leading troops, I’ve come to find those leading often give many of the items they receive to those in their division. That led to me realizing there was a greater need and engaging fellow employees in the effort to ship more boxes.

  • How many boxes have you sent?
We do at least one large shipment each year. During my time supporting service members, I’ve been involved in shipping over 2000 boxes. Some of the standard items I include in boxes are socks, personal hygiene items, snacks along with books and puzzles. In one of the first boxes that goes out to the service member, I ship snacks from my home state. That box often includes Little Debbie snack cakes and M&Ms. For times when I’m unsure what to send, I use some of the standard guides you can find on the web listing what service members ask for the most when deployed.

  • Do you have any tips for other sponsors?
If someone is new to supporting HeroBox, I always share with them not to stress if they do not hear from their service member. They often work 18 hours a day and may work seven days a week. It’s difficult for them to find time for their family in their downtime. You may not hear from them for months or may not hear from them at all. That doesn’t mean they don’t appreciate all you are doing. Just know that what you are doing is important and it makes a difference.
