How to: Pack a HeroBox
It’s more than just a box to our heroes. It’s the emotional and moral support that only you can provide. No organization can do that. We make it simple to support our heroes. But YOU make it special.
After registering and connecting with a hero, it’s time to pack & ship your HeroBox! We’ll walk you through this super simple and extremely rewarding process below.
Get your supplies
You will need a USPS medium (or large) flat rate box. You can pick these up for free at your local post office or online at www.usps.com.
You’ll also need to purchase some or all of your hero’s requested items. You can see your hero’s requested items in their account.
If they don’t have any items listed, you can select from our list of commonly requested items found in your account. You can purchase your hero’s items from the store or Amazon.com.
Prep your box
Double tape the bottom of the box along the long seam and fill your HeroBox full with your hero’s requested items to prevent shifting, and possible damage during transit.
Double tape the top of the box along the long seam. It’s also a good idea to tape the corners to increase stability and prevent sand from seeping in.
Print your postage
The United State Postal Service (USPS) requires specific and detailed information when shipping a care package overseas to our troops. You will need a priority shipping label, postage, and a multi-part customs declaration.
Fortunately, we handle all of this for you. Purchase postage in your HeroBox account, and our software will combine all of the required information on a single shipping label.
Download and print the label directly from your account. Then just cut it out, tape it to your HeroBox and drop it off at the Post Office. It’s pre-paid so you don’t have to wait in line. You can also schedule a free pick up at www.usps.com.
